Dominic started experimenting with plastic as a sculpting material in response to its abundance and varied forms, and has been impressed by its amazing properties and versatility. For some of the work Dominic used HDPE plastic milk bottles in their existing state, gently altering its appearance rather than stripping it down and starting from scratch. The process uses heat to reform and fix the High-density polyethylene, laminating and sculpting sections cut from the bottles to produce very strong yet lightweight and permanent forms. He has also experimented with Polyethylene (P.E.T) plastic bottles, which react to heat in a very direct and different way. The aim is to create art to which an audience can form an intellectual attachment, whilst informing and entertaining them about a most unappealing subject – their rubbish!
